Mr. Vargas Mr. graduated from “Universidad Autonoma de Centro America” as an Attorney and Notary Public in 1991, with a specialty in contracts; he also studied Economics at the “Universidad de Costa Rica.” Later, he lived in the United States for six years, in Long Island, New York. Mr. Vargas took advantage of his time abroad to expand his knowledge of the English language, which he is now fluent in. He has extensive experience in the construction and real estate industries in both Costa Rica and the United States. Mr. Vargas has been an active member of the Costa Rican Bar Association since 1992.

He advises a wide number of companies and is a member of numerous Boards of Directors, and has vast experience negotiating, constructing and documenting mergers, acquisitions and managerial alliances of all levels, from corporate commercial and tributary points of view. Other fields he is involved in include the negotiation and preparation of commercial contracts and advising in the labor field. Since he is a Notary Public, he personally provides corporate notary services.

As a result of his exceptional services as an attorney combined with the high volume of closings realized during the year 2006, Mr. Vargas received the recognition of Best Attorney several consecutive months, and at the end of the year was honored as Attorney of the Year 2007 by Stewart Title Company.

Latco, the Costa Rica Real Estate Solutions Magazine, has named MV Law Firm one of the twenty-five best law firms in Costa Rica.

Mr. Vargas also works as an external attorney for such distinguished entities like: Banco Nacional de Costa Rica (National Bank of Costa Rica), Instituto Nacional de Seguros (National Institute of Insurance), Poder Judicial (Supreme Court) and Tributación Directa (the Costa Rican Tax Department).

With more than 15 years of experience, he offers legal services to a list of more than 250 clients from different parts of the world including North America, Latin America and Europe. Mr. Vargas differs from other attorneys in that he takes an active part in each case and personally supervises each case managed by his office, traveling to other parts of the country, or abroad whenever necessary.

Mario Alberto Cordoba Zárate, Attorney at Law and Notary Public, Criminal Area

As a former Judicial Officer, Mr. Cordoba performed the duties of District Attorney. In the course of ten years working within the Supreme Court of Justice, Mr. Cordoba has operated in the various roles of Prosecutor, Trial Examiner, Judge of Appeals and Criminal Judge. Currently, Mr. Cordoba is pursuing his doctorate in Criminal Law and is responsible for the firms Criminal Law cases.

Victor H Fernandez Mora, Attorney at Law and Public Notary

Being fluent in English and Spanish, Mr. Fernandez holds a degree from the Costa Rican - North American Cultural Center and earned his Law degree from “Universidad Libre de Derecho” in 1997. He is one of our senior attorneys and specializes in corporate, litigation, and real estate law, in addition to having extensive experience assisting clients relocate from abroad. He also heads our expanding branch in the beautiful region of Arenal.

Luis Sandoval, Paralegal, Judicial Area

Mr. Sandoval is a former Judicial Officer who worked for the Supreme Court of Justice for a period of fourteen years in the role of Secretary for the Civil, Labor and Family Courts. He has over ten years experience working within the law offices of Mario Vargas and Associates. In addition to his responsibilities of preparing legal documents, he also acts as firm liaison, keeping in constant contact with the Court during trials.

Carlos Trejos Monge, Paralegal, Notarial and Judicial Areas

Carlos Trejos has been a Paralegal for the past twelve years in various legal offices. His responsibilities include property studies at the National Registry, property closings, as well as the preparation of various other legal documents. Mr. Trejos earned his law degree from the “Universidad Latina de Costa Rica.”

Samantha Carfi. Paralegal, Client Service

Samantha Carfi is originally from New York, but has been living and working in Costa Rica since 2006, and is fully bilingual (English-Spanish). She holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from St. John’s University in New York, and has experience working with colleagues and clients both locally and abroad. Samantha has been working at MV Law Firm since 2008, and works directly with the firm´s clients through their property purchases and sales, as well as residency applications, and other real estate and immigration issues.

Yesenia Kruger. Paralegal, Client Services.

Yesenia Kruger is a legal assistant with additional experience as a real estate agent. She is bilingual (English-Spanish), and has worked for MV Law Firm for a total of almost three years assisting clients in real estate transactions. Yesenia is responsible for reviewing legal documents for her clients, and helping them through the process of buying property, from the sale until the closing date and beyond.

Gabriela Gutiérrez Chavarría. Paralegal Judicial Area.

Gabriela Gutiérrez is an advanced law student, with a special interest in criminal law; she is currently working on her social service practice at the Cassation Court of San Jose’s Second Circuit. Ms. Gutiérrez is a hands-on professional with more than ten years of experience in well-known Costa Rican companies. Her duties include credit studies, drafting legal documents, judicial collections, and court case follow-up.

Diego Rojas Morua, Paralegal,Judicial Area

Diego Rojas Morua is a law student at “Universidad Hispanoamericana”, currently working on his thesis, and will soon be a member of the Costa Rican Bar Association. He has experience in both civil and commercial law, as well as judicial collections. He worked in the corporate offices of a well-known Costa Rican electronics store in their legal department for two years, overseeing credit charges and their respective judicial collections. Diego also has experience in intellectual property, and has basic knowledge in computer software, as well as advanced level English.

Lilliana Ramirez, Receptionist/Administrative Assistant

Lilliana Ramirez studied criminology at “Universidad Libre de Costa Rica”, and is currently in law school at “Universidad Metropolitana Castro Carazo.” She has intermediate level English language skills, and worked in the Agricultural Development Institute conducting preliminary studies of cases submitted to the legal department. She also worked for the Costa Rica office of an international company as an assistant and receptionist in the engineering department.

Dinorah Prieto Campos, Paralegal, Notarial Area

Dinorah Prieto’s legal experience began in 2006 when she began working as a legal assistant for a San José law firm; her responsibilities were assisting at hearings, drafting legal proceedings and following through until completion, as well as overseeing property repossessions and other embargoes. She began working for MV Law Firm in August 2009 as a legal assistant in the notarial area, and is responsible for drafting and editing notarial documents.
